One-liner

UpTakes is a sports video camera app with gesture-powered instant editing: raise to record, lower to stop, and keep or delete each clip instantly with another quick gesture — so there's no editing afterward and no sorting through hours of footage.

About UpTakes

Uptakes Video LLC makes UpTakes, a sports video camera app with instant editing that runs entirely on gestures. A patented raise-to-record gesture (US Patent 11,082,609 B2) starts recording when you raise your phone — no button, eyes on the action — and after each clip a quick gesture keeps or deletes it on the spot: in auto-delete mode the outtakes clear themselves unless you keep them, while in auto-save mode every take is kept unless you delete it. Your highlights land at the top of your camera roll, ready to share the moment they happen. Available on iOS and Android. Founded by Joseph Garff, a sports dad who built it to solve his own sideline filming problem.

The story

Every sports parent knows the moment: your kid scores, the sideline erupts — and you realize you were fumbling with your phone, watching the play through a screen, or never hit record at all. Then comes the after-game tax: scrolling through an hour of footage to find six good seconds, or texting three other parents hoping one of them caught it.

Joseph Garff built UpTakes to remove all of that. Instead of a record button, you raise your phone toward the action and it starts filming — your eyes never leave the field. After each play, one quick gesture keeps or deletes the clip you just shot. The keepers rise to the top of your camera roll as a highlight reel that builds itself in real time, as you film — ready to share before the game is even over. No editing afterward. No sorting through hours of footage. No waiting on someone else's video.

The gesture mechanic is protected by US Patent 11,082,609 B2, granted in 2021. UpTakes is live on iOS and Android.

What makes it different

UpTakes sits between — and beats — the two things sports parents use today:

The wedge: your highlight reel builds itself in real time, as you film. Competitors all build reels post-game. The brand name encodes it — UpTakes = the keeper takes, versus outtakes.

Key features

Founder quote

"I spent years filming my kids' games the hard way — fumbling for the record button, then losing an evening sorting through footage. UpTakes is the patented fix: raise to record, keep or delete each play on the spot, and your highlight reel builds itself in real time. It's the camera app I wish I'd had a decade ago." — Joseph "Adam" Garff, founder, Uptakes Video LLC

What users say (App Store, 4.9★)

"This is a lifesaver at my kid's sporting events… seriously a lifesaver! Capturing all the important moments is so much easier. I don't have to spend all that extra time scrolling through past footage." — gatelyy ★★★★★
"It's saved me so much time already… This app takes all that away and leaves you with just what you want! I've been using it for many months now and it's even more amazing now than when I wrote my original review. It runs very smooth and always works. This has saved me hours and hours. I have recommended it to every parent I can." — Vince3754 ★★★★★
